Dear White Tree Family,

It’s been some time since this page was active, but we wanted to share something deeply personal with our community—many of whom supported us through the years since we opened in 2016.

With heavy hearts, we share that our beloved head sushi chef and my father, who many of you knew and admired, passed away on October 22, 2024, after a brave battle with stage 4 gastrointestinal cancer. From the day we opened White Tree, he poured his soul into every dish and every connection made across the sushi bar.

He is survived by my mom, myself (many of you may remember me as your server since I was 16), and my younger brother, who is now 16. Though the restaurant is now under new ownership, our family’s story continues in a new and meaningful way.

In the wake of our loss, my mom—who was the artist behind the artwork that adorned the restaurant walls—has begun a new chapter. Together, we’ve started Boomiya, a small family-run business featuring her original hand-drawn art turned into stickers, prints, and more. Creating Boomiya has been both a healing process and a tribute to the strength she’s shown in becoming our household’s pillar.

We kindly ask for your support—whether it’s by following, sharing, or purchasing from Boomiya. Your encouragement would mean the world to us as we move forward, still rooted in the love and creativity that once filled the walls of White Tree.

Thank you for being a part of our journey then—and hopefully now, too.

With gratitude,
Amy

Meet the faces behind Boomiya!

Anna (Mom) & Amy (Me)

After running a beloved restaurant with my dad for 8 years in Colorado, my mom found herself facing the unimaginable when we lost him to cancer in October 2024.

But even in grief, she turned to what she’s always done best—creating art that brings warmth to others. Her art once hung proudly in our restaurant, and now live on through Boomiya— a small business she built to support our family and carry forward the legacy of her creativity.

As for me, I’m her daughter—a college student studying accounting (formerly jazz major!), who helps with everything from marketing to production, and translating the business side of things as we grow Boomiya together. My younger brother is still in high school, and everything we do is with our family’s future in mind.

We’re originally from South Korea and have called the U.S. home since 2008. Whether it’s my mom sketching beside her cat Bomi, or me studying away at school, our life is a blend of hard work, healing, and hope.

We created Boomiya not just as a brand, but as a story—a story of starting over, dreaming together, and finding joy in the little things.

Thanks for being here with us.
