Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Extended or Delayed Evacuation Casualty Care, Tactical Medical Emergencies, and sports/orthopedic injuries. When operating in the tactical or austere environment, the protocol allow the Ranger Medic to conduct medical care greatly exceeding the conventional medic capabilities. Ranger Medics employ a wide spectrum of pharmacological capabilities for pain management and antibiotics to manage combat trauma and medical emergencies normally managed by medical officers. Specialized medical equipment and supplies are employed by the Ranger Medic dependent upon evacuation modes, distances and capabilities. The Ranger Medic is expected to manage and package a multi-system trauma casualty for evacuation directly to a surgical capability. This requirement prompts a robust deployable medical kit to manage casualties in an austere environment without access to traditional equipment. The medical kit must include patient monitoring, warming, and carrying capabilities coupled with medications to manage a casualty for up to 72 hours.
