75th Ranger Medical
The Ranger Medic is a graduate of the 36-week Special operations Combat Medic (SOCM) course conducted by the Special Warfare Medical Group at the Joint Special Operations Medical training Center and certified as Advanced Tactical Paramedic (ATP). MSG Castillo, former 2/75 Ranger and a double amputee, currently serving on active duty as a representative of the USSOCOM Care Coalition, visited a Republic of Korea soldier who was wounded in an incident last month. MSG Castillo shared his story with the ROK soldier and his family.
MSG Castillo was seriously wounded near Mosul, Iraq Feb. 6, 2009 while he was on his 10th combat rotation. He was a platoon sergeant with Charlie Company and part of a joint task force that was in pursuit of a high-value target. The Rangers had dismounted and were approaching the objective on foot when they were ambushed. A command-detonated improvised explosive device hit Castillo.
