Chapel 1899

We had a very special visitor yesterday at Chapel 1899 — Doctor Reverend Curtis Rolfe.

Dr. Rolfe was the artist and craftsman behind many of our beautiful stained glass windows created in the 1970s. He, along with his daughter and granddaughter, is currently traveling across the country visiting churches that feature his work. His stained glass can be found in churches throughout the Midwest, as well as in South Korea and England. What an incredible life and legacy this man has had. I feel so fortunate to have met him and his family.

Ron and Rose Langellier, longtime members of Hebron Community Church, also stopped by to meet Dr. Rolfe and hear the stories behind each window. Every piece carries its own meaning and showcases a beautiful mid-century design style.

I can only imagine that my great-grandparents, who were very active members of the church in the 1970s, may have met with him during the creation of these windows all those years ago.

To make the visit even more special, Dr. Rolfe brought the original sketches for each of our stained glass windows. Photo 4 also features a photo on his phone of a stunning stained glass piece he created in Lockport, Illinois, made up of an incredible 2,992 individual pieces of glass. What an unforgettable experience and an extraordinary man. 💛
