In 2004, I created Jay-Z: The Latin Album by blending the acapellas from The Black Album with Latin-influenced hip-hop beats inspired by the records my mom played at home — salsa, Cumbia , Bachata and Merengue rhythms from our roots. What started as a creative experiment became something much bigger. It was a tribute to the deep, often unrecognized role Latinos have played in the growth of hip-hop culture, and a call for unity between Latino and Black communities who helped build it from the ground up.

The response was overwhelming. DJs across the country and around the world embraced it. It reached radio, television, magazines, vinyl pressings — and ultimately caught the attention and respect of Jay-Z himself. For me, it was proof that our culture, our sound, and our voice didn’t just belong — they mattered.

Today, I’m re-releasing The Latin Album not only to honor its anniversary, but because its message feels needed again.

In a moment where Latin culture stands on one of the biggest stages in the world this weekend at the Super Bowl— guided by the same artist who once embraced this project — this re-release feels like a full-circle reminder. Sometimes seeds planted in creativity don’t bloom right away, but they grow over time, in ways bigger than we could have ever imagined.

This project was always about more than music. It was about showing that we matter — that we are rich in culture, diversity, and history. It was about unity. Then, it was unity between Latinos and Blacks in hip-hop. Now, it’s a reminder that unity is something our entire nation needs.

What began as a remix returns today as a reflection — that when cultures connect instead of compete, something powerful is created.

This isn’t just nostalgia.
This is a full-circle moment.

I invite you to listen to the 22nd year anniversary of “Jay-Z: The Latin Album”… one of my most cherished accomplishments, and a reminder of why I still believe in the power of unity through music.
