Punch Out Pitching
ACCELERATE LATE
You can’t try to throw before your front foot lands. This video shows Chris Archer punching out a hitter in spring training, but you can see how late his arm accelerates!
By waiting to throw until your front foot lands, you’re allowing all of the energy to be transferred to your upper body and then into your arm!

MESSING WITH TIMING
Eovaldi has an upper 90s fastball, but is always looking to add something new to his game.
The slight hesitation disrupts the hitter’s timing and might be something you can add into your delivery!
Even when you hesitate... keep your body moving forwards!

UPGRADE YOUR CURVEBALL
I used to always struggle with my curveball being much slower than my fastball, and it was because of a lack of arm speed!
So many younger players can benefit from having the feeling of their arm going fast when they throw an offspeed pitch!
When your body and arm moves faster.... THE PITCH IS FASTER!
Your curveball will quickly become a swing and miss pitch if you can get your body moving faster in a run & gun... and then keep the same feeling in a flat ground or off the mound!

MECHANICAL CHANGES
I’ve been trying to tighten up my front side so that I don’t over-rotate before I release the ball.
The truth when you’re making any mechanical adjustment:
𝐈𝐓’𝐒 𝐃𝐈𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐓‼️
One throw can be good.. the next one could be off the backstop!
And any adjustment is going to feel weird... even professional pitchers don’t pick things up right away! Don’t stress if things aren’t perfect!
(This post was for me as much as it will be for you! I have to tell myself this all the time!)
