Big news for Flint and Genesee County! Today, the Genesee County Land Bank officially launched Renovate Genesee (RenGen Housing), an ambitious four-year initiative to deliver 125 renovated homes to families across our community.

In our pilot year alone, 13 homes have already been fully renovated, with another 13 underway. These are homeownership opportunities for income-qualified residents.

"The pilot year demonstrates that we have successfully built the organizational capacity necessary to scale housing rehabilitation in Genesee County," said Sam Muma, Genesee County Land Bank Board Chair and Genesee County Treasurer. "We are no longer operating a small rehabilitation program — we are creating a housing production system capable of delivering quality homes at a scale that can meaningfully impact neighborhoods and housing availability.

The vision is simple: complete streets. Every block deserves to be whole. Every vacant, foreclosed property is a chance to create one of the nicest homes on the block.

With $1.125 million in funding from MSHDA and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and a goal of securing $6 million more over the next three years, the Land Bank is building the systems, the staff, and the momentum to make that vision a reality at scale.
