M2Bee - All for the Birds

360 valentines with my artwork were received yesterday because random people across 46 states appreciated my art (primarily the praying mantids). That is a 144% increase from last year and I am beyond grateful. Thank you to the 295 orders that came through in the last 1.5 months, you made this small business owner overwhelmed in the best ways and very happy.

In late 2021, I received a random email from a UK-based producer named, Matt, inquiring about the intelligence of Striated Caracaras (aka Johnny Rooks). We soon met over Zoom and corresponded through email for over a year. I informed him on what to expect of these birds, shared their history (including what Darwin thought of them), my research, and where to go to see them for himself.

Today, it’s bittersweet to share the outcome of that initial inquiry because while I am happy and believe it’s safe to say Matt discovered I wasn’t exaggerating about these birds’ “personalities” or intelligence levels, I’m also sad because I miss them and that part of my life.

The opportunity I had to conduct research in the Falklands and the people I met while doing so, will forever leave an indelible mark on my soul. There has not been a single day since I last visited in 2015, that I have woken up and not thought of the Falklands in some capacity at least once throughout the day. Congrats to these “mischievous and inquisitive creatures” who usually always get a bad rap, for getting some positive press instead.
