Yes!!!! To all of you who signed the petition & bugged your legislators, cheers! Our friends from Eastern Market Brewing Co led a charge many thought futile & we are so proud to have played a small role in this! This change will enable small brewers to control their destiny and brand when its most important! Thank you, thank you!
We did it.
Yesterday, House Bill No. 5343 was introduced, doubling the self-distribution limit for small breweries like us. This arbitrary limit restricted the amount of beer small craft breweries could sell directly to bars and restaurants, requiring us to sign with a distributor if we wanted to take beer to your favorite watering hole.
It took twelve long months (and a lot of persistence), but finally, House Bill No. 5343 was introduced by State Representative Pauline Wendzel (huge shout out!). With bipartisan support, we expect it to be officially signed into law very soon.
Thank you to everyone who supported us in making this change happen. In the end, we brought together more than 50 Michigan breweries to publicly support this effort (and many more behind the scenes), as well as countless retailers and even two distributors. All three tiers of the three-tier system. And just as important, all of you who signed our petition and helped to create awareness.
Next up: let's get dogs back in the EMBC taproom.
