We are so grateful for our nurses everyday & enjoy getting to share a bit about them with you. During Nurses Week, we have asked the nurses what being a hospice nurse means to them. Take a second & get to know the hearts behind the nurses here at Alternative Hospice. We are so lucky to have them!

We couldn't let the day pass without acknowledging National Advance Directives Day. Observed annually on April 16, the day encourages people to voice their healthcare wishes & document them through advance directives, to ensure their healthcare choices are followed by healthcare providers, especially in a health crisis when they may not be able to communicate on their own. Research shows that having meaningful conversations about future medical treatment & putting a plan in place makes receiving personally desired medical care more likely.
Some considerations include: dialysis, pain management, feeding tubes, organ donation, resuscitation attempts (DNR)
These legal documents communicate healthcare preferences which is especially important if someone is unable to make medical decisions, such as during a serious illness, injury, or end-of-life situation.
Advance directive typically include: a living will specifying which treatments you want (or don't want), and a durable power of attorney-naming someone to make decisions on your behalf.
Do your loved ones know your medical wishes? Each day is an opportunity to discuss advance directives.
