Hello FB Friends and Family. I know many of you have the dream of owning your own home. I’m going to give you a few tips on what you need to do to prepare yourself to become a Home Owner.
1. Order a Free copy of your credit report to see where you stand. Go to creditkarma.com this will allow you to get an idea on what is on your credit along with your credit score. You would want to bring your score up to at least 620 to qualify.
2. After evaluating credit try to get any outstanding debt to down to 40% or less if you're unable to pay it off. This will increase your credit score. Any derogatory reporting’s dispute each and every one even if they are accurate.
3. If you are looking to purchase a later down the line and your job offer 401k begin investing the max into that especially if your company contribute. If you are like most and unable to save you will be able to borrow against your 401k to use as a down payment without being penalized for early withdrawal.
4. Last and the most important is DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT go out and purchase a new car for the summer. Stop using your credit cards and work on decreasing your debt. Once you get your home you can go purchase a new car. That auto payment along with any increased debt will increase your debt to income ratio and limit your buying power.
Purchasing a home is a big commitment and it takes a whole lot of sacrifice. But my thoughts are if your capable of paying $1200 plus to rent you can pay that to own.
