Weekly Wheels Wisdom: "Remember When Cars Were Just... Cars?" – This Week's Throwback Tech Edition!
Hey gearheads and everyday drivers! 👋 As we roll into mid-May 2026, I’ve been reflecting on how wild car tech has gotten in just the last few years. Remember when your biggest worry was a cassette tape getting eaten by the deck? 😄 Now, cars are basically rolling smartphones on wheels – and it’s changing everything for the better.
This week’s spotlight: AI-powered cars and software-defined vehicles that are straight out of sci-fi (but real!). From CES 2026 highlights, we’re seeing AI that predicts maintenance needs before you even notice a weird noise, adaptive cruise that feels like having a co-pilot, and over-the-air updates that fix or upgrade your ride while you sleep. No more dealer visits for every little tweak!
Why this matters to YOU (even if you’re not a car person):

Saves money – Predictive AI spots issues early, so you avoid that surprise $800 repair bill.
Makes driving safer & easier – Hands-free tech and smart alerts help on long family road trips or your daily commute.
Future-proofs your ride – Your car literally gets smarter over time.

Pro tip from the shop: Pair this new tech with old-school maintenance – check your battery and cooling system before the real summer heat hits. A quick 10-minute inspection can keep that AC blasting and your AI systems running smooth.
What’s one piece of car tech that blew your mind lately? Drop it in the comments – Tesla Full Self-Driving? Android Auto magic? Or are you still rocking a classic with zero screens? Let’s chat! ❤️

🚗 Just saw a beautifully restored 1930 Ford Model A chugging down the highway today… and it hit me like a V8 thunderbolt how wild automotive tech has changed in less than 100 years!
Picture this:
Back in the Model A days, you had a 40-horsepower four-banger, a top speed of 65 mph (if you were lucky), hand-crank start, wooden-spoke wheels, and NO power brakes, steering, AC, or even seatbelts. You literally had to double-clutch to shift gears and pray the mechanical brakes didn’t fade on a hill. Safety? Your lap belt was “don’t fly through the windshield.”
Now roll up in a 2025 Corvette ZR1…
1,000+ horsepower supercharged V8 that hits 60 in under 2.5 seconds. Magnetic ride suspension that reads the road 1,000 times a second. Heads-up display, performance data recorder, front camera, rear-view camera, 360° cameras, active aero, and even a digital rear-view mirror. You can launch it from a standstill with launch control, drift it with electronic limited-slip diff, and it’ll still get better highway mileage than that old Model A ever dreamed of.
From hand-cranked tin can to a carbon-fiber rocket that can basically drive itself in certain modes… we went from “Will it start?” to “Hold my coffee while I smoke the tires at 200 mph.”
Crazy what a century of engineering can do.
