Thanksgiving Safety Reminder 🦃
As you prepare for a day filled with cooking and celebration, the Farmington Fire Department encourages everyone to make safety part of the holiday plan.
General cooking safety tips:
• Stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stovetop.
• Keep kids and pets at least three feet away from hot surfaces.
• Keep flammable items away from the stove.
• Test smoke alarms before the big day.
• If a small grease fire starts, turn off the heat and cover the pan with a lid. Never use water.
Turkey fryer safety:
• Never fry a frozen or partially thawed turkey. Ice and water cause dangerous oil splatter and flare-ups.
• Thaw your turkey completely in the refrigerator before cooking.
• Use fryers outdoors on a flat, sturdy, non-wood surface.
• Keep a three-foot safety zone around the fryer.
• Never leave the fryer unattended.
• Have a dry-chemical fire extinguisher nearby.
A little preparation helps protect your home and loved ones.
Stay safe and enjoy a warm Thanksgiving, Farmington! 🧡
