Leaves have larger cells between layers of shorter cells on the top and bottom surface. This leaf was dehydrated, dried and scanned at a break.

Peacock feathers keep their colors even after the tissues in the feathers die. They have their colors not due to a pigment and won't fade like colored paper in the sun. The colors are due to the step-like nature of their surface. These parts of the feather look green to our eyes.
