Summer is a great time for reading instruction. Scheduling is more flexible, students are more well-rested, and everything just seems more fun when it's warm and sunny. Who doesn't like spelling words on the driveway with giant pieces of chalk?

Remember: students should be "learning to read" in grades one, two and three, then "reading to learn" in fourth grade and beyond. The goods news is that it is never too late to learn how to read.
