So folks,,,as a certified self defense instructor I sometimes get asked some interesting questions from people,,,mostly women. Here is an excerpt from a recent convo.
Her: Gerry what do you think about carrying a roll of quarters for self defense?
A. Many years ago I worked security (insurance man=means the regular in-house bouncers couldn’t handle it) at one of if not number one most violent clubs in Mass and on this one occasion I had a new roll of quarters in my pocket (actually for the parking meter) when a massive F-Troop style brawl breaks out. That is when I learned a few things instantly.
1. After having an unopened bottle of beer smashed on my head from behind I reacted by spinning around with a right hand hook to the guys jaw.
2. He hit the deck like he was shot out of a cannon.
3. It was raining quarters so that one punch just cost me the better part of $10.00
4. A few of the quarters actually imbedded into my hand and fingers=lots of blood=mine.
5. Four (count ‘em) four fingers Broken cleanly off at the hand. And it was the beginning of the brawl so that took away a lot physically.
6. $90.00 for ER visit.
7. A dozen PT visits at $40.00 a piece.
8. A $55.00 silk shirt
9. Missed a week of work -$$
and
10. The most important reason why not to hit someone with a roll of quarters = its Assault & Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon= mucho jail time.
And yes the guy I hit could have died but the concussion and split open head I got from the unopened beer bottled pretty much told me he was trying to kill me.
and
Grand Ma was right,,,,,,,,,NOTHING good happens after midnight.
