Charlie Edwards and his dedicated team take pride in servicing all makes and models of domestic and import vehicles and specializing in Honda, Acura, Toyota and Lexus automobiles. Located on the west side of Evanston on Dempster St just west of Dodge, conveniently located near the Dempster Street "L" Purple line and the Davis Street station of the Kenosha/Chicago Metra train.

Shop Assistant/Apprentice:
Part/Full Time
Position Description: Busy auto repair shop seeks shop assistant and/or mechanic apprentice. This position will include routine shop projects and maintenance as well as the potential for growth depending on interests. Ideally, you have an interest in a career as a mechanic from routine repair to vintage repair, restoration, welding, and fabrication. This position will be primarily assigned to the shop’s owner but also could include working with other mechanics/office personnel as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Reliability and punctuality
Good communication
Initiative to complete projects
Basic knowledge of tools and do-it-yourself repair
Ability to understand technical instructions verbally and in writing in English
Good memory and ability to complete basic mental mathematic calculations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Some auto repair experience
Ability to perform oil changes and visual inspections of passenger vehicles.
Ability to break down, mount, and balance tires
Solid organizational skills
Desire to become an ASE certified mechanic/gain necessary experience.
Ability to read wiring diagrams.
Excellent command of written and spoken English, including specific technical language in the automotive field, as well as intermediate mathematics.
Experience with vintage automobiles a significant asset
This position could range from part to full time depending on qualifications but will begin part-time to evaluate skills. Preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled in automotive technology certification or training courses. Willing to train the right person but some previous experience is helpful. Pay commensurate with experience.
Must be a US citizen, or have permission to work in the United States (green card or work visa)
