We humans are upright most of the time. Our feet may be on the ground, but the rest of our bodies are stuck occupying chairs, couches or cars or walking from one place to another. Wouldn’t it feel radical to lie down during the day? Would it feel even more radical to allow yourself to enjoy it? Would you be worried that you would never want to get up?

It is Earth Day today. Although planting a tree or making the commitment to reduce waste are important things, it will take a whole lot more than small gestures to save our planet at this point. From the perspective of working with the elements, we all carry Earth inside of our bodies. By honoring this element present within us and its connection to the element of Earth present outside of us, we can begin to enact a deep and authentic change in the way we look at our planet. Maybe, by honoring the Earth within us, we can see our beautiful planet as not a commodity to be claimed or triumphed over, but instead our mother, our most nourishing life support system.
