Silver Falls State Park is easily one of the most rewarding day trips you can make from Eugene. It’s not just the short drive that makes it special - it’s how quickly the experience pulls you into Oregons wild, waterfall-filled landscapes.

The famous Trail of Ten Falls truly lives up to its name, offering a nonstop series of cascades that make the entire hike feel like a highlight reel.

What makes this trail stand out is how immersive it is. Instead of viewing waterfalls from a distance, you can actually walk behind several of them. The full 7.8 mile loop might sound long, but with so many scenic stops, it never feels overwhelming.

While South Falls with its dramatic 177-foot drop, is the park’s most well-known feature, some of the smaller, more hidden waterfalls end up being more memorable.

If you’re planning a visit, early Summer - especially June and July - is ideal. Snowmelt and spring rains keep the waterfalls powerful, the weather is perfect for hiking, and the drive makes for an easy, scenic day trip.

After the hike, stop at South Falls Lodge for a quick bite or an ice cream as it’s the perfect way to wrap up a classic Oregon adventure!

Stop #1: The Central Oregon Coast 🌊🐋🥾🦀🌲

Florence is the largest costal town in the area and a great place to start a day trip from Eugene. Its historic downtown has plenty of charm, making it easy to wander between coffee shops, local boutiques, and lunch spots before heading out to see the iconic Siuslaw River Bridge. For something more adventurous, stop by Riding Dirty ATV Rentals and take an ATV or dune buggy out onto the Oregon Dunes.

Just down the coast, Yachats offers a slower pace focused on nature. Explore tide pools, scenic cliffside trails and grab fresh seafood at Luna Sea Fish House. Nearby, the Hobbit Trail winds through a mossy forrest before opening up to the beautiful Hobbit Beach.

Continue south to Cape Perpetua for dramatic ocean views and a chance to spot migrating gray whales. While you’re nearby, stop at Heceta Head Lighthouse - one of the most photographed lighthouses on the Oregon Coast.
