A Message to our Community

GEARs I’m writing this with a heavy heart. As many of us have learned over the past few days, David Morris was struck and killed by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Saturday morning. This is a tragic and devastating loss for our community.

BEST, Greater Eugene Area Riders - GEARs, Lane Transit District, Shift Community Cycles, ASUO, Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation, LiveMove, and University of Oregon Transportation Services invite you to an evening of connection, reflection, and discussion, looking to transform recent tragedies into collective work for a better future.

In the last six months, reckless people driving and dangerous streets killed three people bicycling (Elizabeth Cardenas Figueroa, Merle Dean Sheffield, and Erick Munene Njue). Now, community members and local organizations are coming together to envision and push for a safer and better transportation system for everyone. The community forum on February 12 is one of the first steps in this journey.

- Voice concerns and hopes around how we travel around.
- Preview a range of possible solutions with UO Professor of City & Regional Planning Marc Schlossberg.
- Hear responses from Eugene Mayor Kaarin Knudson, County Commissioner Laurie Trieger, and other officials.
- Learn about next steps and opportunities for getting involved in lasting change.
