Everything went wrong. All at once.
The kitchen we were renting fell through.
We had three events scheduled for the same weekend. Our oven broke down in Tacoma. Our truck overheated. We had to scramble to find a new kitchen with one week to make enough pie for 3 events.
The oven going down in Tacoma was a tragedy. We even had a oven guy look at it before, tested it out before hand and even thenā¦alas it went up in smoke. People waited in long lines. Davey told them over and over what was happening. We lost money on repairs. We didnāt hit our capital goals.
And we got knocked down hard.
Then a customer told me our website was behind. She couldnāt order a pie. And my brain went straight to: Iām a bad business owner. I canāt keep up. Iām failing.
But then I realized something, she wasnāt criticizing us. She was standing for us to win. She wanted to buy from us. She believed in us enough to point out what was holding us back.
And that shift in perspective changed everything.
Suddenly I saw it everywhere. Our friends rushing to finish a kitchen so we could keep going. Our parents lending us their truck and trailer for Alaska. A commercial kitchen owner up there stepping up for us. Customers waiting patiently. People loving on us hard.
Everyone is standing for us to win.
Because what weāre creating matters. The world needs more heart-centered spaces. More Hobbit culture. More love instead of fear.
Weāre not perfect. Weāre two people and a whole lot of sweat equity trying to build something beautiful. Weāre in growing pains. Weāre learning as we go. And yeah, sometimes everything breaks at once.
But we donāt quit. We pivot. We ask for help. We receive it with grace.
Weāre bringing Hobbit culture to Alaska. And our whole community is helping us get there.
And everything that happened, happened for us. Itās making us better, bigger! Not to mention the relationships we are building by allowing people to help. To contribute!
A huge thank you to Scott and the Highlanders up in for saving us with their back up ovens. We love and appreciate you all so very much.
It is so freaking cool to have an ongoing line at !!! The market has been so good to us.
We signed up for it originally to supplement our income between festivals and it very quickly became a staple.
A staple for our customers, our to find us on the regular. And for our Fellowship! The group of hobbits that are hand, rolling every single one of these pies!
Every week we bring more pie, and every week we sell out!
Yāall have been the best!
Thank you for loving on us and voting with your dollar. When you buy from us, you are actively choosing food that is made by hand, by real people, local and organic ingredients grown by your neighbors; farmers here in Lane County, and not just any farms. You are actively choosing people who are going above and beyond with sustainable practices; people who are stewarding the land.
Every time you buy from us, you are saying, āwe want this in the world.ā and that is extremely empowering!
We are creating our own culture of love and belonging. And we feel tremendously grateful that yāall are creating it with us.
Because make no mistake, this is a symbiotic relationship of creation! We get to create the world that we want to see and weāre doing it one pie at a time.
Thank you for participating with us. Thank you for supporting our dream of a hobbit hearted centered world.
We love you so much!
We will be at the farmers market on Saturdays while we are gin in Alaska! Our Fellowship Of The Pie is going to be holding it down for us while weāre gone.
Make sure to head down to the farmers market from 9 AM to 2 PM every Saturday at the pavilion downtown off of 8th, and come say hi.
This is the first time we will be leaving our legacy in the very capable hands of our Fellowship. So be sure to go give them love. They are remarkable and we couldnāt be here without them.

At Second Breakfast Pies, the Hobbit way is baked into every crust.
BY TAYLOR GOEBEL
On a plate in the oven there baked a pie.
Not a soggy-bottomed pie, filled with the likes of mealy fruit and soupy goop, nor yet a mass-produced, tasteless pie with nothing in it to savor or go āMmm!ā
No, this was a Second Breakfast pie, and that means comfort.
I go to Lane County Farmers Market fairly often, but it wasnāt until recently that I stopped in my tracks after the warm, rich aroma of fresh-baked pie hit my nostrils.
I hunted down the source and found myself in front of the Second Breakfast Pies stand, where owner Amy Romero fluffed up cardamom whipped cream, then plopped it on a hearty berry shortcake. I marveled at the ultra-flaky, melt-in-your-mouth texture of the savory potato leek hand pie.
The pie crusts at this Eugene pop-up bakery are all hand-mixed and -rolled and -crimped, the same way Romeroās grandfather, Donald Felthauser, showed her.
āItās always all butter,ā Romero added. āHe said, āDonāt use anything but butter.āā
And thatās where this adventure begins: A man from a long line of Bavarian dairy farmers (of course, the crust would be all butter), one who served in the Navy as a cook and would wake up very, very early to whip up 2,000 pancakes for his slumbering crew (of course, they were made from scratch).
Here is a little taste (pun intended) of the article written about us and our journey.

Tomorrow the features our story, and Iām still in awe that I got to be that vulnerable with the journalist, Taylor.
We didnāt hide behind a mask or pretend everythingās easy. We told her the truth about how Second Breakfast was birthed, how we have been playing Tetris with money, reinvesting everything, and constantly choosing faith while holding our fear. We also talked about our chaotic childhoods, trauma, my alcoholism, and why what our grandparents created for us was so pivotal in who we are as human beings.
We are taught that is weakness, and that being open is intruding on personal matters. But thatās not what we know to be true.
Being vulnerable and open, shows our humanity and allows us to connect on a deeper level; it even helps save peoples lives. Because you never know what somebody is going through and how isolated they might feel.
This is why we are not resisting the fear, but holding it and choosing love anyway.
Weāre not blaming the world for what happened to us as kids. Weāre creating something different. Second Breakfast is a sacred; we get to nourish peopleās bodies and show them theyāre loved, seen, and heard. Itās our grandparentsā legacy made manifest. Itās a culture of empowerment where people realize how truly powerful they actually are.
When I opened my heart to Taylor, I felt more grounded in who I know myself to be. And now sheās taking my words and amplifying them.
Weāre so grateful for the farmerās market and how itās helped us grow, but this Saturday weāre at ; our second year vending there.
holds a special place for me because itās a space where I can be fully expressed, where wall can. It reminds me of wanting to be myself as a kid and finally finding spaces that felt safe. The Celtic festivals, Renaissance fairs, Highland games, Pride, these are the of our community. We desperately need them now more than ever. These spaces ground us in love and belonging.
So come celebrate with us, support these events, and vote with your dollars for the world you want to see. Together, letās hold the fear and anyway. ššāØ
