DATA is currently funded through a patchwork of local millages, including 0.6 mills in Escanaba and Gladstone, or about $60 a year for a homeowner with a taxable value of $100,000 (around half of what the home would sell for).

The new millage would replace the existing ones entirely. In their place, it would set a single rate of 0.689 mills across Delta County. With the proposed increase, that same homeowner in Escanaba or Gladstone would only pay about $8.90 more per year, and would have access to services across the entire county and unlock access to state and federal transit funding.

"Why are DATA buses sometimes empty?" is a question we hear often.

Because we offer door-to-door services, our vehicles are frequently traveling between scheduled rides, returning from service trips, or just filling up with gas before heading back to our headquarters.
