Educational Opportunity:
The next tactical Paramedic course will be held at James Sprunt Community College in Kenansville from August - October of 2026. This is a comprehensive 170 hour training program that consists of two distinct parts. A 96 hour online Foundations of Tactical Medicine course that runs from Aug 3 - Oct 18, 2026 at a rate of 8 hours per week and a 64 hour seated program, Practical Applications of Tactical Medicine, that will be held on the following dates: August 21, 22 & 23; Sept 19 & 20; and Oct 16, 17, and 18. The Foundations Course is a pre or co-requisite for taking the seated Practical Applications Course. The practical portion will include a range weekend in September (AR platform rifles, 9mm service pistols, and tactical shotguns will be available for students to use for this date if they do not own appropriate weapons) as well as the new NAEMT 3rd Edition TECC course. Emergency services agency affiliated personnel will be tuition exempt. The only costs will be $15 for the TECC card and a lab fee for ammunition that will be based on the actual per round cost. If you are interested in this training, please contact email me at [email protected] so I can send you more detailed information.

I am very pleased to announce the first offering of our new EMS Company Level Officer Program. This is a hybrid education program that consists of 76 hours of training online and the following seated courses: Preceptor Workshop, Professional Ethics and Personal Leadership (PEPL), Psychological Trauma in EMS Patients (PTEP), Mental Health Resiliency Officer (MHRO), EMS Safety, All Hazardous Disaster Response (AHDR), and a Designated Infection Control Officer Course. All of the "seated" classes WITH THE EXCEPTION OF AHDR can be done either seated traditionally in the classroom or live online via the ZOOM platform. AHDR is only allowed to be taught in a traditional classroom setting. While I think the traditional seated classroom setting is the most effective way to teach all of these classes, I recognize that travel for multiple seated days is an obstacle to people being able to complete such a long program and live online for most of the courses is both allowable and effective. The program will begin on May 4, 2026 and end on August 3, 2026.
Three textbooks are absolutely needed for this educational program, EMS Shift Supervisor Text (National Association of EMS Administrators), Crew Resource Management (Paul LaSage), and PEPL (NAEMT). All of these are available new from www.jblearning.com.
I am very excited to be able to offer a comprehensive training program for EMS providers who are interested in stepping up to leadership roles in terms of promotion to FTO's, Assistant Supervisors, and Shift Supervisors. Great care was taken to ensure that this program is based on recognized national standards, not my personal opinions.
James Sprunt Community College will be the host college for this program. You can register online at www.jamessprunt.edu if you have problems finding the registration link on the college website, you can email Craig Garner the colege's EMS Program Director at [email protected]
