Often regarded as one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe, the legend of Lake Bled only lends to its charm.

It is said that Lake Bled was created by fairies to punish shepherds who brought cattle in to their dancing meadow. They flooded the valley and left only a small island behind so they could continue to use the space for their dancing.

From a geological standpoint, the lake is a remnant of the Bohinj Glacier, as is Lake Bohinj which is situated inside Triglav National Park. Lake Bled serves as not only a worthy visit in itself, but a great base for exploring the park and admiring the stunning Julian Alps.

Frigatebirds are of the most recognizable species inhabiting the Galápagos Islands, especially San Cristobal and Genovesa.

Since they’re unable to land on water due to their non-waterproof feathers, they must resort to piracy! Notorious for “kleptoparasitism”, these birds chase and harass other seabirds, forcing them to drop their catches which the frigatebirds catch in mid air. Talk about expert fliers!

The male frigatebirds are known for their prominent scarlet throat patches, which they inflate for mating displays.

These guys are visible year round, but most entertaining during breeding season.
