Norman Weldon Pope
Norman Weldon Pope, age 79, passed away suddenly after a brief stay in Piedmont Hospital surrounded by his immediate family.
Mr. Pope was a graduate of University of Georgia, and he played football in some of Vince Dooley's first years as head coach in the 1960s.
He worked for Pickens County as Director of Information for 16 years before he retired and has been an active member of the Lions Club for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Pope and his daughters Kathy Reinhagen and Julie Hickey.
A Celebration of Life is being held on July 1, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ellijay Lions Club, 1729 S. Main St.
Friends and family are invited to attend and are welcome to take the mic and share.
