Yesterday, September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University as part of his “American Comeback Tour” — an event that quickly turned tragic.
A single shot, fired from a rooftop roughly 200 yards away, struck him in the neck as he engaged with students during a Q&A session. The incident has been called a “political assassination” by Utah’s governor, underscoring the chilling reality of ideological violence in our nation.
Charlie was only 31 years old. He built a remarkable platform from grassroots beginnings to national prominence. As co-founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, and a recognized voice for young conservatives, he energized generations with his passion for civic engagement and unapologetic conservatism.
Today, communities across the country mourn. Heartfelt condolences and prayers have come from political leaders, including President Trump, who memorialized Charlie as “Great, and even Legendary.” The ripple of grief and reflection is tangible.
Charlie’s death is a painful reminder that political discourse should be conducted through dialogue, not violence. We must recommit ourselves—to civil engagement, to safeguarding free speech, and to addressing the rising tide of political vitriol. Kentucky stands ready to lead by example: working together with respect, even amid disagreement.
To Charlie’s wife, Erika, and their two young children—we extend our deepest condolences. May you find peace and comfort amid this unimaginable loss.
Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk. May your legacy inspire young Kentuckians—and all Americans—to stand up for their beliefs, and to do so through courage, engagement, and respect.

Yesterday I attended the Mental Health Court Community Forum where discussion was held regarding the Hardin County Mental Health Court and Assisted Outpatient Treatment. So far 335 people have been through this program with 45 people currently in the program.
This program is important to our county because roughly 40% of people in our jails have a serious mental health problem. Addressing these issues head on via this program saves our Department of Corrections an estimated $664,00 to date.
Hardin County was the second county to start this program with 17 counties to follow. 👏

Busy day yesterday in interim joint committee meetings! Here’s some pictures from the Interim Joint Committee on Veterans, Military Affairs, and on Public Protection, discussing emergency management updates with General Charles T. Jones and Eric Gibson, plus a Kentucky Coroners Association update with Jeff Jones, Daviess County Coroner. It was good to see our Hardin County Coroner, Pat Elmore, supporting veterans and military personnel. 🇺🇸

Looks like UK is moving in the right direction to make sure our campuses are free from hate and discrimination. I appreciate the intentional treatment of this situation.
