On our way home from Yosemite, we made an unexpected stop in Fresno and discovered one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever visited.

Hidden beneath the city is a maze of underground rooms, tunnels, courtyards, and fruit trees built by Sicilian immigrant Baldassare Forestiere.

What started as a way to escape the Central Valley heat became a 40-year labor of love.

Standing underground while looking up at orange trees growing overhead felt surreal.

I came for the history. I left inspired. 🍊✨
