Tune in Sunday, May 26th to support #39 Pippa Mann, who is the only female driver in the field in this year's INDY 500. Pippa has been gracious to support the Alysse Krauss Foundation. The foundation logo is on the race car and her memory will be a special day on Sunday!

I love spending time in the hood. Teaching in South LA I get a chance to wander around the neighborhoods. On my way to class today, I saw these two friends open their Barbershop on the corner of a major street. This is what I love about the people of LA. Ingenuity, creativity, innovation, willingness to try and using what they have and leveraging it. A canopy and some hair cutting tools and a stool. The very cool thing is that they hand made their business signage, provided a contact number for appointments and even had some music. The lesson also is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. And knowing your customers and perfectly pricing your service to benefit your customers. It shows HEART, HUSTLE & GRIND. The two cats who started their barbershop on the corner, have the qualities and variables to become businessmen and have a store front barbershop. They just need the fundamentals and capital. I did not get a hair cut because I had to go to class, but I tipped them $10 each for their HUSTLE.
In my classes, I have convinced about 20 students to believe in themselves and to desire to become an entrepreneur. Believe that they have a God given gift/talent and capacity to start their own business. I am starting a Be Non Human Urban Entrepreneurship Academy for high school and college students who want to learn the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, contracts, tax code, negotiation, branding, sales and marketing. In addition, I am starting a Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program so that these students learn the art of storytelling and public speaking. I have learned many amazing stories from my students, heartbreaking but inspiring as they continue to overcome their challenges and dream big.
America has been blessed because of Entrepreneurs and America will continue to thrive because of entrepreneurs. I strongly believe that the key to ending poverty is teaching urban communities how to start their own business and how to manage and scale their businesses. They have what I call the Immigrant Edge and Hood IQ edge (HQ) that once they acquire the fundamentals, they can soar to great heights and transform their lives and communities. One of my students is a rapper and song writer, I gave him a project task to come up with some song lyrics for the song titled Good Things Come From The Hood and he gave me a little taste of his lyrics and this kid has talent and the song is going to be legit!
