🐴🎉 On World Horse Day, the El Paso Zoo celebrates our family of Przewalski’s (pronounced: shuh-VAHL-skee) horses: Mom Brianna, Dad Vitaly, and their 11-month-old c**t Khamzat.
- In the 1960’s, P. Horses went extinct in the wild, but because of dedicated zoo breeding programs and reintroductions into the wild, they now number in the 2000s.
- Come learn about these beautiful animals and the conservation efforts behind their comeback, while playing our horseshoe lawn game and enjoying our coloring station!

📆 Saturday, July 11
⏰ 10 am - 12 pm

❤️ FACTS:
- These critically endangered species of wild horses is named after the Russian geographer and explorer Nikolay Przhevalsky but are native to Mongolia, China.
- Locally known as “Takhi” in Mongolia which means “Worthy of worship and spirit”.
- Contain 66 chromosomes as opposed to domesticated horses that have 64 and humans which ONLY have 46!
- Ranged throughout Europe and Asia. Currently being introduced in Spain.
- Przewalski’s horses may live up to 36 years in the wild. Under human care, they can live much longer.
- This species often lives in groups that contain several mares, a dominant stallion, and their offspring.
- All living individuals descend from just 12–15 wild-caught founder horses captured in the early 20th century.
⚽️❤️ Also, Spain, represented by the P. Horse, just won against Belgium!
