On this day 42 years ago, Salvadoran Archbishop Saint Oscar Romero was assassinated by a sniper as he celebrated mass in San Salvador.
Today, ECOPA remembers Romero's legacy of speaking out against injustice and repression as we incorporate these values in our work with our partners. Meet one of our amazing grassroots partner organizations in El Salvador that strives to address the ecological issues facing the area - The Mangrove Association or Asociación Mangle - They support interconnected grassroots social movements in the Lower Lempa River and Jiquilisco Bay area with programs focusing on advocacy and citizen participation, the environment and climate change, agroecological production, youth development, and women’s empowerment. Currently, ECOPA is supporting Asociación Mangle in their initiatives to improve food security in the region and providing essential capacity building to ensure their programs are able to expand to additional communities.
