🧀 And the world’s best cheese is… a Swiss Le Gruyère AOP! 🇨🇭

The Swiss Le Gruyère AOP from the Vorderfultigen cheese dairy has been crowned the world’s best cheese at the 37th World Cheese Awards (WCA) in Bern, Switzerland. 🏆

Chosen from a record 5,244 entries from 46 countries, this 18-month-aged Gruyère impressed the jury with its crystalline texture and “brothy, umami” flavor. This win marks the sixth time a Le Gruyère AOP has earned the top title. 🌏

A French flower-adorned cheese finished second, only one point behind, and another Swiss cheese took third. The Top 14 highlighted the event’s global scope, with entries from Japan, Slovakia, the United States, the Netherlands, and three from the United Kingdom.

In total, 265 judges evaluated appearance, aroma, body, texture, and flavor. After an initial round, the best cheeses were reviewed by a Super Jury of 14 international experts.

With 948 cheeses entered, Switzerland was the most represented country.
