Cautiously watching the river at Big Spring Lodge…

Posted • Finishing up today’s flood reporting, we have mostly good news from the lower Current River. The flood crested at 22 feet at Van Buren, well below the predicted levels. Though much of the Big Spring area remains under water, the Big Spring Lodge barely got its foundation wet, and no water got inside.

Up river is a different story. The damage to the Pulltite area is extensive and will take some time to clean up. Akers and other areas are still being assessed.

With the crest past us and now leaving the park, water levels are dropping but could still take several days to approach normal levels. Doniphan folks should be prepared for the crest to arrive tomorrow. All river sections remain closed to non-motorized vessels within the park at this time.

Thanks to for reading My Great Adventure with Nana and for interpreting this book in over 5 languages! You can pick up your (free) copy of the book in English or Spanish at any High Plains Library location while supplies last.

Are you looking to squeeze in one more summer adventure?

Here’s some inspiration…Bright Angel Trail follows a natural fault bisecting the Grand Canyon down to the Colorado River.

Our redesign of the trailhead brings this awe-inspiring experience to a wider audience by addressing universal access. Key to the design was replacing parking along the South Rim with shade, shelter, amenities, and a gathering space overlooking the iconic views.
