A mid-Michigan high school marching band is in the running to win Metallica's inaugural marching band competition.

Finalists were announced this week in the "For Whom The Band Tolls!" competition, and the DeWitt High School marching band was one of five bands to be selected by judges—and the only band from Michigan—to make it into the medium-sized high school category finals.

The band's submission—which scored them a slot in the finals—was a performance of "Enter Sandman," filmed in November.

Metallica themselves will choose the final winner of each category, and if DeWitt wins, band members will score musical equipment for their school program worth $15,000.

A second fan-favorite prize will also award $10,000 to the college and high school with the most votes.
