Kessler Foundation is one of only nine centers in the US to have dual model systems in traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. Model systems are federally-funded grants that promote collaboration through research to develop a standard of care for treating the injury and identify lifestyle issues that matter most to people with TBI. The Northern New Jersey TBI System (NNJTBIS) is a collaborative effort between Kessler Foundation and Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. As a data collection center, Kessler Foundation follows individuals with TBI from the time of injury throughout their lives. This allows researchers to identify differences in treatment throughout communities and ethnicities as well as areas that need further exploration to improve the quality of life for individuals with TBI.
