As we look ahead to Lent, I hope it is a season where you can feel the full spectrum of emotions that you have and you can lay them honestly before God.

I’ve had many years where giving something up felt impossible—whether because it triggered past disordered eating or because it felt like God had already asked too much of me. Almost a decade ago, I started baking and eventually teaching sourdough during Lent in response.

Last year, the teaching itself became its own gift to me as I entered a season of deeply questioning God’s goodness and God’s care for me.

If you are in need of a gentle spiritual practice this Lent, of a tangible way of knowing that God is near, then I would love to invite you to join me.

Yes, we’ll learn how to bake sourdough bread—whether or not you’re a brand new beginner or someone fairly comfortable with wild yeast, I’ll help you understand the ins and outs of sourdough. But even more importantly, we’ll approach our sourdough baking from a posture of prayer. We will seek God’s nearness with our hands in dough.

I can’t wait for you to experience the ways that God shows up in the process.
