I celebrate you, moms! I celebrate my mom, who I'm very lucky to be able to go and see today and let her know how much she means to me! And I celebrate the moms who have been generous with their own children, and invited me into their lives, to love and care for them, and to be loved. And I celebrate my own fierce mama bear energy, because even though I've never raised children of my own (and wanted to very much) I find ways to bring that energy into the world. And I extend my empathy and care to y'all if this is a complicated or difficult day for you. And if you happen to be struggling with, say, a teenage daughter... it got better for us! photo: a rare moment of peace, late 1980s, Mom and me!

Last November, I planted a bunch of bulbs in my front yard, with the same low/no expectations I brought to my . I'd had the bag of bulbs from Costco for a while, and I finally dug a ditch and threw them all in there, and covered them up before the ground froze. About a week ago, when I noticed the return of the daffodils that the previous owners of my house planted, it occurred to me to check and see if mine had broken above ground. YES! Just a couple of inches. Now whenever I come home, even if I'm feeling only OK or low, I feel a little thrill at the buds (some kind of tulip, I think) working their way up. Sometimes I love rainy days, but today I'm feeling kind of dreary and sad. So I decided to go take pics of the babies. Good to focus on the green of spring coming. *ttygarden
