Confirming something I've always known. Playing a record -- even on high VTF cheap ceramic cartridges -- does very little if any damage to the vinyl*. What makes vinyl sound bad is poor handling, improper playback (i.e. taping a coin to the tonearm when the stylus is mistracking), and dust in the grooves (and that's usually removable).

*polystyrene 45s are a different animal and WILL wear with overuse.
