Providing supplemental food to children and families facing hunger in Durham County.

12/31/2025

As we close out another transformative year at PORCH-Durham, we want to thank you—from the bottom of our hearts—for being part of a community that believes no child should go hungry.

Because of your generosity and the support of neighbors like you, PORCH-Durham has grown exponentially since opening our physical location two years ago.

As we look ahead to 2026, we’re committed to deepening our reach, strengthening our partnerships, and continuing to meet families where they are—with dignity, compassion, and nutritious food.

Every dollar you give goes directly to sustaining this impact. That’s one more child who goes to school with a full belly. One more parent who can breathe a little easier. One more household that feels the warmth of a caring community.

Will you help us finish the year strong? Make a year-end gift at www.porch-durham.org/donate today!

November was a tough month for many families facing food insecurity. The first part of the month brought delays and uncertainty around SNAP benefits, and immediately after that our community experienced anxiety and fear around immigration enforcement.

But when our neighbors were suffering, we witnessed an incredible outpouring of compassion and generosity.

In the month of November we received an astonishing 12,900 lbs of food, and were able to mobilize volunteers and community partners to distribute 11,600 lbs of it, all before schools closed the week of Thanksgiving. For context, in the first 10 months of the year, our averages for "food in" and "food out" are in the range of 3,000-3,500 lbs per month - so we provided about 4 months worth of food assistance in 3 weeks!

THANK YOU!!

Did you know...about a dozen of our Neighborhood Coordinators are youth and teens? We're so proud of ALL of them and their commitment to our community - and today are honoring 2 who have recently gone above and beyond!

Anisha is our neighborhood coordinator for Colvard Farms and a senior at Durham Academy. In addition to organizing food drives and volunteering with our food sorts, she recently held a fundraiser for PORCH-Durham through her Arangetram. We were so grateful she included us as a beneficiary, and she ended up raising over $2,000!

Macie is our neighborhood coordinator in Hope Valley and a junior at Jordan High School. She took on this role about a year ago, and has been assertive in growing her collection footprint, and meticulous in tracking her outcomes. In one of her first food drives, she brought in what I believe to be our biggest food collection on record - 611.5 lbs - and since then she continues to consistently collect 400 lbs per month.

Thanks to both of these young ladies - and all the other young folks and teens who support PORCH-Durham - your example of generosity and compassion is an inspiration to all of us!
