I AM MARIA. Why a woman?

Some of my readers have asked me why I should write a novel from the POV of a woman. The answer is that in researching for the novel I found the role of women in the Resistance undervalued (Eleni Fourtouni's "Greek Women in Resistance" was one of the exceptions to this.) Many books have dwelt on the undisputed bravery of the Palikaria or the Allied intelligence officers embedded in the Resistance. I hope that "I am Maria" offers an alternative to the dominant narrative.

Plus, I enjoyed the challenge of stepping outside my comfort zone!
