Eric Alfonso Torices is running for Los Angeles Superior Court Judge as he possesses the competence, objectivity, integrity, and temperament to serve. Torices has already been endorsed by several Los Angeles Superior Court Judges and Commissioners. Torices was born in Media, Pennsylvania to Mexican immigrant parents. After moving from Pennsylvania to Texas in the early 80’s, the family settled in
Downey, California in 1986. Torices excelled in the Downey public schools winning numerous honors and national recognition. At the age of 16, he was selected to represent Southern California at the National Law and Leadership Convention hosted by Stanford University where he participated in mock trials. After graduating from Downey High School, he enrolled at UCLA and obtained a Bachelors’ degree in Psychology and in Spanish Literature. He spent a semester abroad in Seville, Spain, to finish his Spanish Literature curriculum. After graduating from UCLA, he enrolled at Loyola Law School where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 2005. Torices opened his private law practice in Downey soon after being sworn-in as an attorney and spent the first year doing Immigration Law before branching out and adding Criminal Law to his list of legal services. Torices shifted his practice primarily to Family Law and has been successful in this area for the last 12 years. In 2013, he became a Family Law Mediator helping assist parties and their counsel to reach global settlement in Divorce cases. Torices became an Adjunct Professor at Cerritos College teaching Immigration Law in the Paralegal Program. He is currently teaching this Fall and looks forward to educating a new group of students in the Spring semester. Torices joined the Board of the Southeast District BAR Association of Los Angeles County (SEDBA) in 2016 and was elected to serve as the bar association’s President in 2019. His top priorities as President were to increase membership and promote camaraderie among its members. When his presidency ended, membership had tripled from the year before and new events were created which have now become yearly traditions for SEDBA. Torices became a Judge Pro Tem for the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles Temporary Judge Program. His first few months as a Judge Pro Tem were spent reviewing and signing off on Family Law judgments at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse. Then in the fall of 2018, Mr. Torices was assigned his first bench assignment. After 3 years on the bench, he has effectively completed 128 assignments in Family Law and Traffic. This honorable judicial experience has convinced him and his family that he is ready and able to become a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge. Torices is married. He and his wife are raising two beautiful children only minutes away from where he grew up. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife and children by traveling together internationally or simply taking his children to the park where watching his two-year old daughter enjoy the playground is invaluable to him. Their younger son will soon join his big sister on the playground once he begins to walk.
