We volunteered for Camp Rehoboth's Habitat for Humanity Build today. It was an Amazing day to say the least. So many other terrific volunteers showed up with tons of energy and massive hearts. I was trying to stay low key but it did not last long. I was asked to share my knowledge and I got to tech them how to install windows and a door while another crew put handrails on the back porch. At the end of the day their kind word of appreciation brought tears to my eyes. It was an amazing way to kick off Pride month!!

It is finally time to post this project!!! This project is in a Milford Historical home that is about 200 years old. The shelves that were demoed out were painted chip board in need of an upgrade.
I had fun playing mad scientist matching the stain to the stain color that runs throughout the home.
An added bonus was getting to build a rolling hook ladder. The hook allows it to be lifted off the track and moved to the other section of shelving.
In true Beefy fashion these units are built to last the next 100 years with the house.
I Love these type of projects and truly enjoy the look on the customers face when the get to see it all completed.

We’ve been sitting with the news about Amber Czech, a 20-year-old welder whose precious life was taken at her job last week in Minnesota. She had just started her career. She was showing up, doing the work, building a future she deserved. And in a place that should have been safe, her life was taken from her by a coworker who decided “he didn’t like her”.
There’s a heaviness that comes with saying her name because so many women in the trades know what it feels like to walk onto a jobsite hoping they’ll be respected, protected, and treated like they matter.

Amber should still be here.

And the weight of losing her brings up the memory of Outi Hicks, a carpenter apprentice and single mother of 3 in Fresno, California whose life was also tragically taken by a male coworker on her jobsite in 2017.

Two women, years apart, taken in the same way: on a day they were just trying to work.
This is too many.
Too close.
Too unacceptable.
We remember Amber.
We remember Outi.
And we will keep saying their names until safe worksites are the norm, not the exception.

THIS IS NOT OK!!!! A young woman lost her life this week at the hands of a man and four blows of a hammer. Whatever his motive was she did not deserve this!!!
As women in the trades we have to fight harder than any man to prove that we have what it takes to get the job done. Sometimes that hard work does lead you leadership roles but even then we have to prove ourselves all over again to gain respect on the new role. It never stops. We should not have go thru this.

In my thirty years of being in this trade I have had to grow thick skin so that when I was talked down to - nobody knew how much it bothered me. I would be put with a crew of guys and had to make sure that everything i did was on point, if it wasn't I knew I would never hear the end of it. After awhile things would start to lighten up as the guys saw that I was just as good as them. Then out of the blue I would have to go to another crew and start the process all over again. I have to make sure I had all the tools I could think of as to avoid a conflict from asking to borrow a tool, I had to keep an eye on all my tools or they would get stolen or tied up with fishing line in cruel pranks that felt worse than hazing - they were trying to get me to quit.

One day I snapped at the job foreman because he was doing something wrong and in front of a customer he calls me a D**e as loud as he could. I couldn't hold back my emotions any longer and headed home for the day. I was too embarrassed to go back to that project so I was assigned to yet another crew.

We are just as good as any guy out there in any trade!! We are not responsible for your insecurities!!

My heart is with Amber's family and friends and any other women out there that is having a hard time.
