Back in the 90s, the Ironbound was deep into car culture. Growing up in the middle of it, I was always fascinated by airbrushing and pinstriping that people added to their cars as visual ‘extras’. I came across a pinstriper that showed me the art of glass engraving using a dremel etcher. (a device much like a tattoo gun that contained a diamond point tip to chisel off the top layer of a glass surface.) I made some side money doing small engravings on various cars, with my car always having big pieces to showcase my skill. Then the internet came and my attention went to digital and I put this skill to the wayside.
With honing my stencil mastery, I wondered if there was a way to combine the 2 skills. I stumbled upon sandblasting on glass to etch in a design. It always starts with using a mask to cover the area you don’t want etched and then removing it afterwards to reveal the design. I thought sandblasting was complicated, its not. So I decided to try out using a small sandblast gun. Using my newer ride as my canvas, the results are better than I expected.
The pics show a small calvin n hobbes piece I did for someone and a large piece on the back of my camaro hatchback. Then there is the newest piece and my art that I made the reverse stencil for it from.

The stencil was first used on an utility box on melrose ave way way back. This piece was started in early ‘21 but then I wasn’t feeling it so i stored it off for later completion. Guess sometimes later is a couple years down the road.
