Spinning Yarns

We are thrilled to be participating in the 11th annual Great Northern Yarn Haul! This year the tour of yarn shops through New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont will be the entire month of July. How it works: grab a passport from your local yarn shop (hope it's us!) Travel around to see some great shops and get your passport stamped. Turn in your passport at the end to be entered into prize drawings. Great fun!

Our Kickoff Party will be this Wednesday, July 1st, starting at 11am.

At 7pm tonight, my kid graduates from high school. You've seen her around the shop the last 18 years. She's one of our Sunday gals. She can knit AND crochet. She has opinions, including those about fashion and what I can make for her. She's heading off to Tennessee this Fall to study music. I am wicked proud of her and love her to bits. I thought going through some of my favorite projects that I've made for her would be a fun celebration. And wanted to share it with you since you all watched my kids grow up with me. Thanks for being in my village.

Probably the most worn item that I've knit for her is the Cloud Sweater. That thing is often found on the floor, backseat of the car, in pictures, on vacations. Four ball of Cloud, big needles, happy teenager.

Once we hit the tween years, summery crop tops were in. I made a few, including My Secret Little Crop. I'd recommend the Universal Cotton Supreme.

The Teddy Sweater is a top-down pullover done in a gorgeous yarn, Malabrigo Arroyo. The pocket is given a “bear” face for added cute factor.

I will always and forever recommend a Zip up the Back Hoodie for littles. Easy to put on and it makes them into adorable little gnomes with the pointy hood. This one I added my own lace panel. Others I have embroidered on or sewn a fabric pocket.

And I did finish her graduation blanket in time!

Bear Paw Sock has been a fan favorite since it was introduced for Sock Squad and now it is a permanent addition to FDF! This 3-ply yarn has great stitch definition, and the grey yak makes the colors come out richer. Use it for socks, sweaters, and everything in between. You can pair this yarn with Oh Dang! for texture. Please note the yak in this yarn is a NON-SUPERWASH, so we recommend hand washing anything you make with Bear Paw, including socks, to avoid any possible felting.

Have you ever seen a cuter toe?? Inspired by Andrea Mowry's Ooey Gooey sweater, these socks will be the star of your sock drawer. The Ooey Gooey Sock Set takes one of each color with leftovers.

Starflight are knit from the top down, with a 1x1 ribbed cuff and a large quilt-inspired star on the front and back of the leg, with vertical lines on the sides. The socks have a flap and gusset heel, a quilted texture on the top of the foot, and a row of flying geese triangles above the toe. 1+1 skeins.
