What gets preserved shapes what gets designed.
Through community-led research, oral histories, and digital mapping, preserves and shares the legacy of Black Bottom and Paradise Valley - two historically Black cultural and economic centers whose displacement reshaped Detroit’s social, spatial, and creative landscape.
Last year, brought this work to Detroit Month of Design, exploring how archival practice and community storytelling influence creative work across disciplines. Operating as a living archive, their work reminds us that documenting history is also an act of shaping creative futures.
The Detroit Month of Design creates space for independent, community-driven work to be shared across the city. The 2026 Festival Open Call launches February 23.
