Martha is a board member of SAG-AFTRA Detroit chapter. From 2005-2009, Martha served on the Detroit City Council, as an advocate for the city’s seniors and fighting for the Motor City’s educational and economic future. She continues to be an international ambassador for Detroit, making sure that you “can’t forget the Motor City.”
In 2007, Martha testified before Congress on behalf of musicians, session singers and recording artists for better wages and royalties. She was honored for her hard work and courage in 2007 by delegates and members of AFTRA. On July 19 - 21, 2007, the 70th Anniversary AFTRA National Convention
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania honored Martha for her classic voice, raised in solidarity and courage for all the members of AFTRA
Martha is also on the board of SoundExchange, a non-profit performance rights organization that collects royalties on behalf of sound recording copyright owners and featured artists for non-interactive digital transmissions, including satellite and internet radio
In 2008 Martha served as a co-chair for The National Federation of the Blind’s fundraising walk-a-thon event

May 22 2019 - Martha is the recipient of the Alabama’s Distinguished Artist Award from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. Martha is a supporter of the Metro Detroit Youth Day. On July 13 2016 she was honored for for her ongoing support in front of 35,000 kids and 1,600 volunteers at the 34th annual event. Martha was inducted into the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority in 2008
Martha was awarded the Alpha Award of Honor and Merit from the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at the 2009 New Orleans General Convention
Martha is an unofficial ambassador for the Motown Museum and its legacy
