I spoke at the meeting on May 14th because at 2am the previous Sunday, DPD violated mine and my neighbor's 4th amendment rights and conducted unlawful searches based on Shotspotter alerts, which is significant as this technology contract is up for renewal right now. Everyone acted very concerned at the meeting (except the deputy chief, whose language suggested that the onus was on me to provide them with the information of involved officers); however, despite giving my contact information in good faith to everyone who asked for it, I haven't heard from any of them. I also spoke at the city council meeting two days before this and though the council president also took my information, his team has not responded to my emails either.
We have a right to transparency and constitutional safety in our policing. I LOVE this city - but I love my neighbors more, and what happened here was unacceptable and completely avoidable. has an opportunity to reeducate their officers on what actually constitutes probable cause - and on treating all citizens equally, regardless of their race.
