DDRO Substance Fact - Alcohol
Beers with the boys can turn into bad decisions and broken lives…
According to the Iowa HHS, there were 23,514 alcohol-related emergency room visits and 812 alcohol-related deaths. Alcohol is not only painful and taxing on your body—it can literally kill you. Disclaimer: The DSM-5 and clinical literature indicate that most individuals who develop alcohol withdrawal are drinking approximately 8 or more standard drinks per day for a prolonged period (typically more than two weeks).
As part of the No Filter: Substance Misuse Conversations, Staff Sgt. Hughett, with the Iowa National Guard’s Counterdrug Task Force, Drug Demand Reduction Outreach, is helping raise awareness because crises like this are affecting communities across Iowa every day.
