Courage has been on my mind today. 🩵

This morning, I did something that made me nervous.

Later, someone asked me to help a group of volunteers feel more confident doing something that makes them nervous.

Then I came to the studio and spent part of a lesson convincing a student to audition for a role that is absolutely right for him. By the end of the conversation, we were both laughing because the idea of not auditioning suddenly seemed ridiculous.

It struck me that this is the thread running through so much of what we do here.

Yes, we teach voice, music, and acting.

But we also teach people to walk into the room anyway.

To sing the song.
To audition for the role.
To give the speech.
To perform when they're nervous.
To let the world hear what's inside of them.
To trust themselves enough to try.

Will your voice shake sometimes? Absolutely.

Each time you try, it will shake less. ✨

The student in today's photo is playing his very first gig this weekend. Confidence didn't arrive first. He built it, one brave moment at a time.

Until they believe in themselves, I'll believe in them enough for both of us.

Sometimes that's exactly what they need.

Every time we choose courage, we get a little stronger.

That's true for me.

And it's true for our students. 🩵
