FINDING BELONGING IN A DISCONNECTED WORLD
Our session was accepted for 2026! Save Finding Belonging in a Disconnected World to your SXSW EDU schedule, so you don’t miss it!
In a world driven by likes, swipes, and algorithmic connection, we’re lonelier than ever. This panel—featuring leading voices in dating, friendship, psychology, and event design—unpacks how we can forge more fulfilling relationships in a tech-saturated world. Whether you’re single, partnered, or building a chosen family, you’ll walk away with research-backed insights, new frameworks for intimacy, and practical steps to connect more meaningfully—with others and yourself.
Here’s why dating is SO much more challenging these days ⬆️
If you’re struggling to meet the type of person you want to be dating or are attracting the wrong type of people, here’s an exercise that can help you identify where you might be going wrong, and as a result, where to switch things up.
Pull out a piece of paper and make a list of the most recent dates you’ve been on, whether it’s one, two, or twelve dates. Is there a pattern? Maybe you’ve met most of these people on Tinder…okay, maybe you try Hinge. Maybe you met them at a monster truck rally…let’s try a coffee shop next time instead.
Whatever your patterns are, this exercise can help you identify them. Once we know what we’re dealing with, it’s so much easier to make change.
What are your patterns?
If we let it, rejection can be a data point. Don’t get me wrong, rejection can be hard. If you need to take time to move through it, you should do exactly that. But once we’ve processed that rejection, let it serve a different purpose: redirection. Each no helps you get clearer on where to invest your energy and who is able to meet you in the kind of relationship you want. Dating isn’t about getting everyone to choose you. It’s about finding the person who is right for you and who chooses you back.

We’ve proposed a panel for SXSW 2026 that brings together voices from dating, friendship, psychology, and event design to explore how we find belonging in an increasingly disconnected world.
In an era of likes, swipes, and algorithmic connection, many of us are feeling lonelier than ever. Our panel unpacks how we can build deeper, more fulfilling relationships. Whether you’re single, partnered, or building a chosen family, you’ll walk away with research-backed insights and practical steps to connect more meaningfully—with others and yourself.
If this conversation matters to you, we’d love your support in bringing it to the stage.
