This is one of my favorite Willow trees in the neighborhood. Its a great example of what proper tree knowledge and care can do for a tree. Willows are known for their soft wood, and their branches tend to break easily, but with correct and frequent pruning, the tree is less prone to becoming damaged in heavy wet snow storms or crazy winds.

This is a message from your trees, they are thirsty! After the long, and not so moist winter your trees are begging for a drink. They would be so happy to recieve 10-20 minutes of water at least once a week!

They shape the neighborhoods we grow up in, the parks we retreat to, the playgrounds we learn in, and the forests we explore. Our storyline may bend, change, even roam from time to time.
Yet, quietly and humbly trees are steadfast characters in the backdrop of our lives.

Not a common tree among Colorados urban canopy, but one of my favorites none the less. This is the Horse Chestnut tree. Despite its name, the horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) is not closely related to the sweet chestnut (Castanea species) that produces edible nuts. They belong to different plant families. The "horse" in its name might come from the theory that
the leaf scar left on the twig after the leaf falls resembles a horseshoe with nail holes. In spring, it produces striking upright clusters of white flowers, often with pink or yellow markings, resembling candelabras. While fun to play with, the conkers (seeds) are actually poisonous to humans if ingested due to a bitter toxin called aesculin. They can cause gastrointestinal issues.

You may not know this, but right now is the perfect time to create a branch in the place of your choosing on young supple trees. Particularly fruit trees. All you have to do is create a small notch just above the bud. It does not have to be deep just through the cambium to the wood. The ideal time to do this is right before your tree leafs out. It's believed that the notch disrupts the flow of hormones and the bud thinks that it is now the terminal bud and is stimulated to send out a shoot rather than a leaf. Let me know if you've tried this and how successful you were in the comments below! Also if you enjoy this content, please share!
