Karis Community

life by promoting their adjustment to mainstream participation in the greater community and avoiding future hospitalization. Being a part of the Karis means Community members learn to work with, share with, care about, and relate to others, so they gain real-life experience that equips them for integration into the mainstream of life. This learning process is achieved through a rigorously monitored program of activities, including weekly support groups and daily interaction and involvement with staff and other Community members. Community members learn to set and achieve specific personal goals, re-establish vocational, volunteer, or academic investment, and re-develop personal care habits. They are also enabled to develop interpersonal relationship skills and embrace awareness of their growing wellness. Karis Community serves 60-65 individuals per year, including current Community members and former Community members who attend monthly meetings of the follow-up Focus Group (where they can keep in touch with staff and each other and address any current issues).
